How to Have a Slumber Party With Two People

Create a memorable party for two.

Nearly everyone enjoys the idea of getting away from home for a sleepover. Although inviting many close friends can seem like a great idea, the article "Birthday Parties" by PBS Parents advises keeping "the guest list short at your first slumber party so the guests don't get overwhelmed." Limiting the number of guests not only makes the party more manageable, it can help build closer relationships. There are several ways to create a memorable night while having a slumber party for two.

Things You'll Need

• Dinnerware and stemware
• 2 to 4 large limes
• 4 to 8 cups pineapple juice
• 4 to 8 cups orange juice
• Ice
• 4 to 8 tbsp. grenadine
• 1 small jar maraschino cherries
• Flavored water
• 1 to 2 packages of crescent rolls
• 1 package hot dogs
• 1 package cheddar cheese
• 1 package tortilla chips
• 1 small jar cheese sauce
• 4 potatoes
• 1 small carton sour cream
• 1 container bacon bits
• Board games
• Musical instruments (guitar, synthesizer)

   Stemware makes the evening special.

   Serve snacks and drinks on fancy dinnerware and in stemware usually reserved for special occasions to step up the party mood. This does not necessarily mean getting out the china and crystal. Party stores carry inexpensive plastic replicas that look great and are sure to please your guest as you make a toast at your slumber party.

2. Search your local library or online for creative drink recipes. Many recipes involve little more than mixing several different types of juices. According to the article Plan the Best Slumber Party! in "Seventeen Magazine," all that is needed to make a virgin mai tai is 1 large lime, 1 cup of pineapple juice, 2/3 cup of orange juice, 6 ice cubes, 2 tbsp. grenadine, and 2 maraschino cherries. Offering choices in flavored water can also quench thirst for overnight stays.

   Choose fast, easy-to-make snacks.

   Prepare party snacks together as a way to include your guest and ramp up the party mode. Select snacks with few ingredients, such as cheesy crescent hot dog rolls or finger sandwiches, or go all out, making loaded baked potatoes or nachos with favorite toppings. Space the food out to break up the evening's activities.

Activities

1. Choose games to provide hours of interest and fun during a slumber party. Traditional games like Scrabble, Yahtzee, Sorry! and cards can be just as easily enjoyed by two players as by multiple players. Verbal games involving answering questions about current celebrity or real-life crushes and telling scary stories are also slumber party staples.

2. Sing or play instruments to inspire musical creativity and allow you and your guest to open up. Write a song together, creating chords and lyrics commemorating the slumber party. Having a karaoke contest or practicing vocal harmonies can also make for a lively, memorable evening. Each person can also make a CD mix of her favorite tunes to enjoy throughout the evening.

3. Have a movie theme night. Discuss possible film genres before the party, such as romance, science fiction, horror or comedy, and be sure each person brings several favorite flicks to share. Take turns watching each other's choices, and offer plenty of popcorn with flavored toppings, such as cheese, butter or jalapeños to create a memorable sleepover for two.

• Get permission from a parent before inviting a friend for an overnight stay; children and young adults must have a responsible adult supervise all minors.

• When preparing food and cooking, always have an adult present.
