How to Get a Flat Stomach for Teens

If you are a teenager, particularly an older teenager, you may suffer from the same fat retention problems as adults do. One of these problems is fat on your stomach -- many people carry weight in their gut, either in the form of a pot belly or rolls. Not only is this aesthetically unpleasing, it is also a sign of poor health and diet; your teen years are a good time to get on top of this and make a change that hopefully lasts into adulthood.

The key to a flat stomach is to lose fat across your entire body. The way to do this is to be active and, more importantly, change your diet to reduce fat.

      Cut fast food from your diet. Many teenagers spend a lot of time in fast food restaurants, and if you are one of them you need to change your lifestyle, as fast food is high in fat and dense in calories.

      Eliminate candy and soft drinks from your diet. While these tend to have little or no fat, they do have a lot of sugar, which your body then turns into fat. This fat will collect on your arms, face and stomach.

      Register for a sport at your school. Even if you are not very athletic, there are still intramural and social teams that will keep you exercising regularly and also help you to meet new, like-minded people.

      Perform regular abdominal exercises such as sit-ups, crunches and leg raises. These will help build stomach muscles, although they will not directly burn stomach fat. However, if you build firm, strong stomach muscles you will meet your fat loss halfway -- your belly fat won't just disappear, but rather will be replaced by muscles, which are firmer, tighter and nicer-looking in general than skin and bones.
