How to Paint Canoes in Camo
Paint your canoe in a camouflage pattern to get the best results when you are hunting. Hunters can mimic their surroundings when they use the camo painting technique. Hunters can sneak up on ducks and other prey from the water, or they can leave their canoe and hunt from shore. A highly visible canoe can deter prey from entering your hunting area.

1
Flip your canoe upside down. Put each end on stools, cinder blocks or another form of elevation to make painting easier.
-
2
Clean your canoe thoroughly. Remove grease and dirt from the surface before you paint. Spray the canoe with a garden hose and then wipe off any grease or dirt with a rag.

3
Sand the canoe's exterior. Wipe off any dust that is left. Apply a light coat of marine primer. The primer will prevent the paint from peeling once the canoe is in the water.
-
4
Apply the base tan color. Spray it on the entire surface with long, even strokes. Make sure you are working in good lighting and don't over apply the paint; this will avoid streaking. The base color should be lighter than the secondary color in camouflage designs.
-
5
Use olive paint to paint the camouflage design. You can create your own design or you can buy a design stencil from an outdoors store. Use your stencil for accurate application by placing the stencil flush against the canoe as you paint inside it. Try to mimic the colors of the area that you will be hunting in, if your intent is to hunt with your camo canoe.
-
6
Move your stencil and continue spraying paint around the circumference of the canoe. Be careful not to place your stencil on wet paint. The paint should be dry by the time you reach your starting point. You can overlap your stencil pattern over the dried paint.
