The experience of a firework display can be replicated for a television commercial

Whether you're with friends or family, firework displays are absolutely fantastic. Staring up and seeing color fill the sky, holding your hands over your ears as well as wondering what will happen next, are just some of the thoughts running through our heads. Although it's tough to replicate the emotions for real, with a bit of planning, the experience can be maximiszed for a television commercial.

Instructions

    • 1

Find an impressive backdrop. If you're asked to think of memorable fireworks displays, images of the Sydney Opera House, the Eiffel Tower, or the London eye often shown on New Year's Eve come to mind. Using these buildings will be tough, but if you can find a location that your target audience will both know and have positive memories or thoughts about, it's good.

    • 2

Capture sounds. A key feature of a display is the booming fireworks sounds overhead. People's televisions will be set to a normal volume level when the commercial is shown, so they won't hear the same volume that would be heard at the actual event. It's therefore important to try and replicate the experience and catch the viewer's attention using high bass levels.

    • 3

Select strong and powerful music to provide additional atmosphere. It's now used at most events, with operators playing tracks alongside the display. Use an upbeat and energetic song that will make people think excitedly of the display, not a section which is slow and melodic.

    • 4

Position your cameras in varied locations. When someone is attending an event they can turn their head as much they like, so it's important to try and reproduce this as best as possible. Large displays shown on television position cameras on all sides of a display area as well as on buildings, and also sometimes film from a helicopter. Flip between cameras every three of four seconds to enhance the viewers experience as much as possible, and to ensure they remain interested.

    • 5

Showcase all fireworks. It's fairly obvious, but different people like different fireworks. Some like large explosions whilst others prefer rockers which you can see shooting up from the ground. It's therefore essential that the commercial shows different types to appeal to all viewers.

    • 6

Display a safety message. Fireworks can be dangerous, so it's important to display message warning viewers of the risks if fireworks are not used properly.
