How to Build a Simple Outdoor Nativity Scene
During Christmas time, you will often see nativity scenes on people's yards, on church lawns, or other places with public views. The scene represents the central role of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary to Christians around the world. To build a scene, make sure that you have an acceptable location, each of the scene's necessary figures, and an electrical hookup if you are using nativity equipment that light up.

1
Find a suitable outdoor location to set up your nativity scene. For example, you can set up the scene on your private property, such as your home. Setting up a nativity scene on your front lawn or porch are popular ways to display the scene to passersby.

2
Gather the necessary characters of the nativity scene. You will need the following: baby Jesus, manger, Mary and Joseph, hay, shepherds, three Wise Men, angels and nativity animals such as sheep and camels. You can purchase them from a local decoration shop, borrow them from someone who will not be using the display, or even buy them from the Internet (see Resources).

3
Configure your scene outside. The focus should be on Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. Place all other characters around Jesus and the Virgin Mary. Since you have animals in the scene, feel free to configure them around Jesus and in different locations in the scene. For example, you can have a cow grazing grass a short distance away from Jesus.
