How to Get a Copy of a High School GED thumbnail
You can get a copy of a GED diploma if you have lost the original.

Some employers or places of higher education may require that you submit a copy of your General Educational Development test scores. There are ways to obtain a new copy in the event that you have lost or misplaced your original GED test scores.

Instructions

    • 1

Recall the testing center where you originally attended your GED testing. If it was a testing center in the United States or Canada, you can find contact information for more than 3,400 local testing centers on the American Council on Education's website. If you completed your GED testing at a correctional facility, overseas or through the military, there is a GED transcript request form available on the American Council on Education's website.

    • 2

Contact your local GED testing center for information on when and where you can obtain a copy of your GED in person. Test scores may be stored in a different location than where you took the GED test, so be sure to call and confirm the location. Also remember to bring two types of identification and a method of payment. Some facilities charge up to $14 for a copy of your GED.

Complete the GED transcript request form on the American Council on Education's website if you originally took your GED test overseas, in the military or in a correctional facility. This form cannot be submitted online, but can be mailed or faxed in. Provide credit or debit card information or a money order, as there is a $14 fee involved.

Tips & Warnings

  • The procedure for requesting a copy of your GED transcript can vary from state to state. Contact your local testing center to confirm that you are following the proper steps for your state.
