Doll House Lighting Instructions
Putting lights in a doll house adds extra depth and warmth to your finished project. Doll house lighting can include ceiling lights, wall lights, table lamps and porch lights. The doll house light socket board can be placed near the bottom at the back of the house, so as not to detract from the front or the inside of the house. Even though doll house lights may look complicated, they can be installed with a few simple steps.

1
Decide on the location of the lights in your doll house and the quantity you plan to use. You don't have to purchase all the lights at once, but your lighting plan determines the size of the transformer and socket board you need for your lighting project.
-
2
Count the number of bulbs that you will use in your doll house. This is not the number of lights, but the actual number of bulbs. So, for one lamp with three bulbs, you would count three. Then count up the actual number of lights to determine how many plug sockets you need. The average socket board has twelve plugs.

3
Purchase your socket board, transformer and lights for your house based on the number of lights and bulbs in your lighting plan.
-
4
Position your socket board in a place that is easily accessible, but not in plain view from the front of the house. Once you decide where to put the socket board, stick it to the doll house with adhesive or double sided tape.
-
5
Drill holes in the doll house for the wires of each light to pass through. Drill two holes for ceiling lights, one in the ceiling for the light and one in the back of the house for the wire to pass through. For wall lights, drill a hole directly under the light for the wire to pass through to the socket board. The wires for table lamps and lamp stands only need an exit hole from the room where they are located. This allows you to move them around the room.
-
6
Remove the plug from the wires by pulling out the two pins with a pair of pliers and pull on the wire. Feed the wire through the drilled holes and stick the light in place using the adhesive pad included with the light. Refit the plug by feeding the twin wire through the central hole and feed one wire into each of the two holes on either side of the plug. Refit the pins into the holes.
-
7
Plug each light into the socket board and attach the socket board to the transformer. For a neater look, use masking tape to tape down wires to the back of the house.

Tips & Warnings
If you plan on using a lot of light, consider using a different circuit board for each side of the house. This makes faults easier to pinpoint and easier to repair.
When installing lights, concentrate on one room at a time so you can plan and install your lights before decorating your house. This makes it easier to cover wires as you decorate.
Run lights along floors instead of ceilings. This makes them much easier to hide.
Drill holes just slightly larger than the size of the wire.
