The 1970s swept the cat-eyes and high-rise lashes of the 1960s under the table to embrace sun-kissed skin, dreamy eye shadow colors and disco glam. For a little inspiration, look to icons like Farrah Fawcett with her California-girl glow and Blondie with her edgy punk vibe. Whether you want to embrace your inner bohemian or channel the glam of Studio 54, '70s-inspired looks can easily spice up your everyday makeup routine.

California Beauty

Farrah Fawcett inspired the barely there '70s makeup trend that embraced sun-kissed skin and natural eyes. Foundation was kept minimal, so use a tinted moisturizer or light-coverage foundation. Apply bronzer to your temples and in the hollows of your cheekbones for a summer glow, and brush on peach or light pink blush. Apply a neutral brown or nude shadow to your lids; for definition, add a dark brown to the crease and blend out. Finish with two coats of mascara and you're ready for California dreaming.

Boho Goddess

Bohemian goddesses like Stevie Nicks and Cher rocked the natural look combined with soft but flirty eye makeup. Swipe a shimmery brown or burnt orange all over the lid, and don't forget to apply the eye shadow under your lower lash line as well. Line your lashes with black or brown eyeliner -- smudge it with your finger to create a softer line. Top off with three coats of mascara for extra drama. Apply a small amount of bronzer to brighten up your face, and finish with a red-tinted or dark pink gloss for the perfect boho pout.

Disco Glam

Studio 54 goers, like Bianca Jagger, wore bold and bright makeup to match their flashy outfits. Use your normal foundation and add a dab of bold blush to your cheekbones. Jewel tones of purple, blue and green were popular for eye shadow -- pick your favorite and apply color to the lid, bringing it up to just below the brow. Blend with a clean brush and add a dab of shimmer to the inner corners of your eyes. Choose a bold lipstick that complements your skin tone and sweep a clear gloss over the top.

Edgy Punk

Blondie and Siouxsie Sioux were queens of the edgy '70s punk look. Punks embraced pale foundation -- opt for a base one shade lighter than your skin tone. Apply a bright blush high on your cheekbones and try an exaggerated cat eye or a bold eye shadow. No need to blend the shadow -- punks embraced messiness -- instead, finish the eye with a generous helping of mascara. For a modern twist, swap red or black lipstick for dark purple or deep oxblood red.
