How to Download CS 1.6 Skins

Released in 1999 as an independent mod for the popular PC game Half-Life, Counter-Strike has remained a staple of league-based online gaming that attracts millions of players from around the globe. Its last major update was in 2003, and the age of its graphics is evident. You can update the look of your maps, weapons and player models by turning to Counter-Strike's large fan community.

      Locate the skins you want to use (see Resources).

      Download the skins to your computer and unpack or unzip them.

      Make a backup copy of the original skins contained in "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps[your login]\counter-strike\cstrike," then copy your new skins to that directory, overwriting files when asked.

      Restart Counter-Strike. Your new skins should be in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you are using skins compatible with your version of Counter-Strike 1.6. Skins designed for the Steam version and for the stand-alone version are usually not compatible.
