How to Change the Ridgeline Headlights

by Matt Scheer

If your Ridgeline headlights, manufactured for Honda vehicles, are broken or damaged, you need to replace them. Ridgeline headlights house the headlight bulb and socket and are plugged into the electrical system through a wiring harness that feeds to the headlight switch, which allows the driver to operate the low and high beams. A new pair of Ridgeline headlights cost about $150 as of 2010 and can be acquired through online vendors. Although replacement procedures vary by make and model of your vehicle, expect to spend an afternoon replacing Ridgeline headlights.

Step 1

Turn off your vehicle and prop open the hood with the hood support rod.

Step 2

Disconnect the wiring harness from the rear of the headlights currently in your vehicle.

Step 3

Remove any visible bolts securing the headlight to the headlight mounting bracket with a socket wrench and try lifting it off of the mounting bracket. Continue to the next step if it does not budge. Otherwise, skip to Step 7.

Step 4

Remove the bolt securing the turn signal to the fender and pull the turn signal through the fender enough to see the wiring harness plugged into the back of it. Disconnect this wiring harness and remove the turn signal. Remove any additional bolts securing the headlight that were revealed when you removed the turn signal. If the headlight still does not budge, continue to the next step. Otherwise, go to Step 7.

Step 5

Remove the bolts securing the grille to the front end of the vehicle and pulle the grille off of the front end. Remove any bolts securing the headlight that were revealed when you removed the grille and try lifting the headlight off the bracket once more. Continue to the next step if it still does not come off. Otherwise, skip to Step 7.

Step 6

Remove the fasteners on the bottom of the bumper and in the wheel well. Carefully pry the bumper off the fender, placing tape between the bumper and fender if you fear you may scratch it as you work, and pull the bumper off the bumper support bracket. Remove any final bolts revealed when you took off the bumper that secures the headlight and pull the headlight off the headlight mounting bracket.

Step 7

Set the Ridgeline headlight on the headlight mounting bracket, secure it with the bolts you removed earlier and plug it in with the wiring harness you took off earlier. Repeat this process for the headlight on the other side of the front end. Follow the previous steps in reverse to reinstall any extraneous parts you had to remove to access the headlights.
