Knowing how to disassemble your Dell Studio 1735 or 1737 laptop computer can save you a trip to the repair store. Disassembling your laptop will allow you to replace hardware components that no longer work. You will also be able to perform your own upgrades on your machine, swapping out-of-date hardware for newer equipment. All you need is a few simple tools and a grounding strap to avoid causing static electricity damage to your laptop.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn off the Dell Studio 1735 or 1737 laptop. Unplug the power cable and disconnect any other devices connected to the laptop. Turn the laptop upside down and position it so the battery is next to you.

      Push the battery-release latch above the center of the battery to the left until it locks into place. Remove the battery. Remove the screw in the center of the battery bay.

      Loosen but do not remove the eight screws around the edges of the base cover using a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the base cover.

      Remove the four screws in the hard drive bracket in the upper-right corner of the Dell Studio laptop. Carefully pull the blue ribbon cable on the left side of the bracket out of the system board. Grab the black pull-tab on the bottom of the hard drive. Lift the pull-tab to remove the bracket from the laptop. Repeat this step if you have a second hard drive installed. The second hard drive will be on the middle-left side of the laptop.

      Push the retaining clips on the short sides of the upper memory module away from the module. Carefully pull the module out of its slot. Repeat this step to remove the lower module.

      Remove the three screws along the right side of the laptop and the four screws along the left side of the laptop. Remove the one screw in the lower-middle part of the laptop.

      Turn the Dell Studio laptop right side up, open the display and push it back as far as it will go. Wedge a flathead screwdriver underneath the control cover behind the keyboard and pry upward. Grab the back of the cover and swing it forward. Lift the plastic connector in the laptop holding a ribbon cable extending from the control cover. Remove the ribbon cable and control cover.

      Wedge a flathead screwdriver beneath the black plastic piece surrounding the keyboard and pry upward. Remove this piece.

      Remove the screws behind the "F1," "F4," "F12" and "Insert" keys. Lift the keyboard and place it, keys down, in front of the mouse touchpad. Lift the black plastic piece in the laptop holding the keyboard ribbon cable. Carefully remove the ribbon cable. Remove the keyboard.

      Remove the two screws in the center of the keyboard bay. Remove the screws in the middle-left and middle-right side of where the control cover used to be. Lift the four plastic connectors at the bottom of the keyboard bay and remove the four ribbon cables. Remove the palm rest.
