How to Recycle Used Wine Bottles for Cash

Some state legislatures have passed bills that adds a mark-up to your purchase of bottles or canned beverages. This mark-up can later be recouped when you are finished with the bottle or can by dropping it off at a recycling center. This creates an incentive to recycle waste, as opposed to throwing it in the trash to never be used again.

• Empty wine bottle(s)

Instructions

1. Verify that you live in one of the following states that has a Bottle Bill for recycling. They are: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Oregon and Vermont.

2. Take all your empty wine bottles to a location that accepts them for recycling. You can call your local grocery store ahead of time to confirm whether they have that option.

3. Return the wine bottles once at the facility, either by putting them through an automated machine or handing them to an employee. From there, you will be given your bottle deposit.
