How to Install Snowmobile Ski Protector Boots

How to Install Snowmobile Ski Protector Boots thumbnail
Protector boots save the carbide on the ski underside against grit and hard ice.

Snowmobile skis have carbide bottoms that help provide the glide and flow over the powder and snowy conditions. When the seasons begin to change, the carbide ski bottoms need to be protected to prevent unwanted wear and abrasion. Ski boot protectors serve this purpose. These units are shaped like the underside of the ski and attach to the ski bottom. Use snowmobile ski ramps to get the skis up where you have access to drill the boot protectors to the snowmobile skis.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the work ski ramps in your workshop and pull the snowmobile up onto the ramps so the ski tips hang off the front of the ramps, giving access to the ski bottoms.

    • 2

Slide the ski boot protectors over the snowmobile ski tips and mark the screw hole points from the boots to the bottom of the ski. Remove the boots.

    • 3

Place the bit into the power drill and push it so only 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the bit is exposed. Tighten the bit into the drill and drill out the holes on the bottom of the skis. Wipe off the dust.

    • 4

Slide the ski boot protectors back onto the snowmobile ski tips and align the holes. Use the boot kits screws to secure the boots to the ski. Make sure the screw heads go up and into the boot protector housing so they are not exposed to the ground.
