The oil pump on your 2002 Dodge Intrepid SE's 2.7 liter engine pumps oil through your engine's parts to reduce the friction heat on the valves, cylinders and pistons. In this respect, it plays a vital role to your engine's health. Replacing your oil pump takes approximately one hour and does not require any specialized tools. Instructions

    • 1

Jack up the front end of your Intrepid and place jack stands beneath the frame. Lower the Intrepid down on the jack stands.

    • 2

Position yourself under your Intrepid's motor, with good view and reach of the oil drain pan.

    • 3

Remove the oil drain plug and allow it to empty out completely into your catch pan. Re-install your drain plug.

    • 4

Remove the retaining bolts that hold your oil pan in place. There are about a dozen of these bolts that line the perimeter of your pan. Use a socket set to remove them all.

    • 5

Pull the oil pan off once you have removed the bolts. If it does not come right off, you can wedge a flat head screwdriver in and then pry it open.

    • 6

Reach up and remove the oil pump's mounting bolts with your socket set. Seat the new oil pump and put mounting screws back in.

    • 7

      Re-install your oil pan.

    • 8

Lower your Intrepid down from the jack and pop your hood. Open the oil fill cap and add five quarts of oil.
