How to Make Friends With Men

Beer. Brats. Baseball. Books. If you like any of all of those things, you might have found your key to making friends with men. Those aren't the only interests men have, though, and you should keep yourself open to trying new things and taking the time to visit places where men tend to hang out. If you want to make friends with men, the main thing to remember is to relax and try to be yourself.

Go to a sports bar or a coffee shop. If you're trying to meet single men, decide what kind of man you would like to meet. If you're a sports fan, visit a sports bar and strike up a conversation with a man who interests you. Don't try to overly impress him, but use your sports knowledge to break the ice. Talk with him for a while to see if he really is interesting enough to get to know better. If you would rather someone more low-key, look for a man reading a book at a coffee shop. You might not want to interrupt him while he reads, but if you catch him reading a book or newspaper article you're also reading, ask him his thoughts on it.

Join an intramural sports league, or take a few dance classes at the park district. Team sports allow people to get to know each other by forcing them to work together to attain a common goal. Dance or other types of workout classes allow you to get to know men who have the same interests as you while spending quality time together on the dance floor.

Go to lectures or readings, or even church. If your favorite author is in town signing and reading from her newest book or your church is holding a Bible study, attend these events to not only get more insight on the reading, but to meet people who wish to discuss and critique these works. It's always fun to get to know someone who has the same taste in literature as you, or someone who shares your religious beliefs. This also proves that, at least on the surface, you have something in common.
