Buy CD-Rs --- recordable compact discs --- to burn your music.

Apple's iTunes is the largest music downloading service in the world. In February 2010, iTunes surpassed 10 billion song downloads. Downloading and using iTunes itself is simple and free, whether you are a Mac or PC user. After you have iTunes, build your music library by downloading legal song files, usually called MP3s. You can burn most CDs in a few minutes. Keep blank CD-Rs handy so you can burn discs anytime you want.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the Apple iTunes website and click "Download," if you do not already have it installed on your computer. Select your operating system in the left column and hit "Download Now." Follow the instructions for installation. (See Resources)

    • 2

Click the iTunes icon on your computer desktop to launch the program. Click "iTunes Store" in the left column. Browse music you want to download. Enter names of artists, songs or albums in the upper-right "Search Store" field.

    • 3

Hit the "Buy" button next to any song or album you want to download. The price of the download appears to the left of "Buy." Follow the ITunes prompts to enter your credit card payment information. Once you have paid, the music you have purchased will begin downloading.

Create a playlist. In iTunes, select "New Playlist" under the File menu. Enter a name for the playlist, such as "Oldies." Go back to your music library, highlight the songs and drag them to the playlist.

    • 5

Insert a blank CD-R into your computer's disc drive. A pop-up window appears acknowledging the CD. Hit "OK."

    • 6

Click the playlist. Hit the "Burn Disc" button in the lower-right corner of the iTunes window. Select "Burn" in the pop-up window. Wait for the disc to finish burning. Your disc drive will eject the CD when it is completed.
