How to Remove Old Newpapers From Scrapbooks

A scrapbook is similar to a photo album, but it does more than just store and display photos. Scrapbooks generally contain "scraps" of special items, such as ticket stubs, pieces of clothing, and significant newspaper articles. Almost anything that has been glued into a scrapbook can be removed; however, you will need a gentle hand and a lot of patience.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug in your iron, and turn it to the lowest heat setting.

    • 2

Open your scrapbook to the page containing the newspaper you wish to remove.

    • 3

Place a hand towel behind the page and on top of the page.

    • 4

Run the warm iron over the towel-covered page several times.

    • 5

Remove the towels, and gently slide a thin butter knife underneath the newspaper. If any sections are not coming unglued, don't force them. Just lift as much of the newspaper as you can.

    • 6

Plug in a hair dryer, turn it to the lowest heat setting, and blow heat between the newspaper and scrapbook page, holding up any newspaper that has already been lifted. This step is meant to loosen any glue that was not loosened with the iron.

    • 7

Gently slide the butter knife between the newspaper and scrapbook page to separate the remaining newspaper from the scrapbook page.

    • 8

Place the newspaper under a large book or other heavy object to flatten any creases that may have formed in this process.
