Instructions

    • 1

Measure over the head from just below the right side of the jaw to just below the left side of the jaw. This will be the length of the hat. Measure the width of the head from the forehead to the back of the head. Add 4 inches to this number for the width of the hat.

    • 2

Cut a rectangle out of the cardboard the length and width you just measured. Round off each corner to create a rounded rectangle.

    • 3

Cut the fabric 2 inches longer and wider than the size of the cardboard. Glue the fabric to the cardboard letting 1 inch of fabric overlap on all sides. Fold the overlapping fabric around the edges and glue it down to the underside of the hat.

    • 4

Divide each doily into quarters. Cut out each quarter. Glue pieces of the doilies to the backside of the hat. Leave about 1 inch of the lace hanging off the edge. Flip the cardboard over so you can only see white doilies along the edge of the hat. Glue a whole doily to the center of the top side of the hat.

    • 5

Decorate the hat with tissue paper flowers. Cut circles the size of a quarter out of different colors of tissue paper. For a flower, take two circles of paper. Put one on top of the other. Fold up the sides and scrunch the paper just a little to give the flower depth. Glue the flowers to the hat. Decorate with as many or as few flowers as you prefer.

    • 6

Cut a hole for the tying ribbon on each end of the hat. Pull a piece of ribbon through the hole and secure with a knot. Repeat on the opposite side.

    • 7

Wear the hat by folding it lengthwise over your head. Tie the two pieces of ribbon under the chin.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also staple the tying ribbon to the hat.
