How to Find Online Professor Jobs

Professors take on many roles. A professor may give lectures, supervise graduate students and conduct independent research all in a single day. To become a college teacher, you must complete a bachelor's degree. Many colleges and universities also require candidates to possess an advanced degree. Professors teach in an academic setting. They also teach classes online. Online professor jobs can be ideal for a candidate who wants to work part-time or determine if he wants to become a full-time professor.

      Turn your current professor jobs into online professor jobs. If you already teach at a college, contact the chairperson of your department. Propose teaching at least some of your lessons online. Draw up a detailed proposal indicating how you would teach classes as well as what you would require of students. If you demonstrate that you can teach lessons online, you may be able to expand into teaching an entire term online.

      Prepare copies of your academic qualifications. Get copies of your undergraduate and graduate transcripts if you don't already have them on hand. Write a resume emphasizing your teaching experience. If you don't have formal teaching experience, emphasize your in-depth knowledge of relevant subject matter. Get copies of any papers you have published and articles you have written in a relevant field.

      Investigate colleges that interest you. Many colleges have both brick and mortar classes and offer classes online. A college, such as University of Phoenix (which focuses on online classes but also offers classes at more than 200 learning centers nationwide) may hire an instructor to teach both in person and online. Colleges also hire instructors to solely for online professor jobs. Candidates for online professor jobs are expected to demonstrate an understanding of basic computer skills as well as familiarity with Internet functions.

      Research online colleges. Some colleges offer classes exclusively online. Students attend classes from all over the continental United States and even abroad. Online colleges often have many online professor jobs. Online college administrators seek out applicants who are intimately familiar with computer technology and comfortable working unsupervised. Online colleges also hire candidates who can demonstrate in-depth real world knowledge of a specific field such as nursing or engineering.

      Read magazines related to your field. If you have an academic specialty such as classics or linguistics, you can often find academic openings in your field. A college may not specify that a course is given online, so check carefully before applying. Read alumni magazines as well. Alumni magazines may have academic job listings.
