How to Remove a Platter on a JVC Turntable

JVC builds its record turntables with a heavy metal platter topped with a rubber pad for holding vinyl LPs during playback. The platter fits over a central drive shaft that rotates the record. You may need to remove the platter for maintenance of your JVC turntable or to take care of repairs such as replacing the drive belt around the motor and driveshaft. Removing the platter takes only a few seconds.

Instructions

    • 1

Return the tonearm to its stop position, and lower onto the cradle with the tonearm adjustment lever near the rear of the tonearm.

    • 2

Unplug the JVC turntable power cord from the electrical outlet.

    • 3

Lift the rubber mat off the surface of the platter, and set it aside.

    • 4

Grip the edges of the platter with both hands, lifting the platter straight up and off the turntable. Set the platter aside on a padded surface to avoid denting the metal or causing other damage.

Hi, I have a JVC AL-E11BK fully automatic turntable. I cannot lift up the platter because of the centre clip. I don't know what to do with the clip, whether to try to lift it by force or with a screwdriver or what. Any advice? Thanks
