How to Install an Antenna on a Popup Camper

Mount the antenna bracket to the hard shell side of the popup.

Popup campers are typically austere on the inside. Beyond the camping kitchen and sleeping quarters, most popups don't leave much room for entertainment. Remedy this situation by adding a television and antenna to the rig. Travel television antenna kits are available to fit on popup campers. These antennas give the needed reception for the popup, allowing for TV viewing in the camping quarters. Check that the television has a digital converter or is self-equipped to receive the digital broadcasts now used for basic station transmission.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash off the small area of the popup camper hard shell 2 inches from the ceiling. Let it dry and place the antenna kit's mounting bracket against the cleaned area. Mark the screw holes from the bracket onto the popup hard shell.

    • 2

Drill out the holes and screw in the bracket to the hard shell of the camper. Apply a coat of silicone caulk around the drilled holes to seal the holes and ensure that no water gets into the hard shell or insulation. Let the caulk dry.

    • 3

Place the top bracket on the hard shell. Drill out the holes and screw it into position. Align the top bracket mounts to the lower bracket mounts to ensure the antenna has a straight set of mounts to stand upright in when attached. Caulk around the drilled holes of the top bracket.

    • 4

Place the antenna into the brackets and tighten the wing nut to secure the antenna into position. A wing nut is included with most kits, allowing the antenna to be secured to the brackets.

    • 5

Plug the coaxial cable into the bottom of the antenna. Run it down through the camper and plug it into the back of the television for reception and entertainment.

    • 6

Remove the antenna by unplugging the coaxial cable when you are ready to transport the popup. Store the antenna in the camper.
