How to Paint Pearl Silver Flames on Black
Painting pearl silver flames on a black paint job is not the easiest project to do unless you have extensive experience painting vehicles. Pearl paint is not a solid paint, instead it shows on the surface as a shimmering effect. Pearl silver flames on top of a black surface will show up as black with some shimmering silver in the shape of a flame, almost like a dusting or powder effect.

1
Locate where you want to flames to be painted on the black surface. Use thin automotive masking tape to "draw" the outline of the flames. Use thin tape so it is more flexible to make the initial outline of the flames you like. Then use wider tape to put around the outline of the flames, to protect the black surface from overspray. Now the only thing showing in that area is the surface where the pearl silver paint will be sprayed.

2
Use a red scuff pad to evenly scuff the surface of the area where the pearl silver paint will be sprayed. This prepares the surface for the paint to adhere. Paint won't adhere well to a smooth, finished surface. Once the area is scuffed and dull, wipe it with wax and grease remover and a towel.

Spray the pearl silver paint over the area that makes up the flames. Hold the spray gun six to eight inches from the surface and use thin coats so the paint doesn't run. Let the paint dry for five minutes before adding another coat. Up to eight coats can be added, depending on the look you want. The more coats, the more the silver will show up against the black paint. Let the finished flames dry for 24 hours before touching them. Pull the masking tape off carefully, before the paint dries, so that it isn't stuck to the vehicle.
