How to Learn PvP on EVE
Sooner or later in EVE Online there comes a point when most players want to learn how to engage in player vs. player combat (or PvP). For the majority of players, no other aspect of the sci-fi themed MMORPG provides the adrenaline rush of PvP. For less fortunate pilots, PVP savvy is a matter of survival and protecting one's in-game assets. By learning from select experts and gaining useful experience, the road to being on the right side of the killmail (or avoiding one) can be days away.
Things You'll Need

1
Explore different types of PvP including solo, small gang, fleet, faction warfare, piracy, griefing and war dec defense as applicable. Choose PvP training classes, corporations and guides that are compatible.
-
2
Learn PvP basics first, which include: setting up the Overview, how to fit and use a PvP ship and its modules, maneuvering, pod survival and EVE Online "aggression mechanics." Two effective methods for obtaining this knowledge quickly and reliably include PvP classes and PvP guides.

3
Join a PvP training class or two. A few options exist to help people learn how to PvP on EVE. Many corporations promise such training, yet not all deliver. Two recommendations for learning PvP basics without having to commit to a corporation include classes provided by both Agony Unleashed and PWNED Factor. A session or two with these experts will provide valuable instructional and hands-on training.

4
Practice what you learn about PvP repeatedly. Two practical ways exist that are affordable for new players, one is via the EVE test server known as Sisi or in-game by flying an inexpensive frigate, such as the popular Rifter.
-
5
Ask questions from multiple sources. Public chat and forum channels made available by dedicated PvP training corporations are a good place to start. Additionally, the EVE Online forums; notably the Warfare and Tactics section can prove useful.
-
6
Read guides and watch videos on EVE PvP tactics but avoid becoming overwhelmed. Note also that not all advice is accurate (e.g. Caldari is a bad race for PvP) so double check facts and put advice to the test where possible (see Resources).
-
7
Find a PvP corporation to join if needed. Most players who play PvP for fun learn faster by flying and fighting with other pilots in a small gang or fleet as applicable. Even those individuals who wish to solo the universe as a force to be recognized will generally learn far more from fellow PvP players than alone.

Tips & Warnings
People vary on how they learn best; using multiple resources and teachers/mentors helps.
Master PVP basics before tackling more complex strategies and expensive ships.
Make a decision to PVP and then just do it. Fear will impede the learning process and much fear about PVP is from lack of experience.
Avoid invitations from strangers to help you learn about PvP at a specific location; it is likely a set-up.
