Crafty DIY Brooches
Creating a brooch can show your artistic flair for crafting personalized accessories for a fraction of the cost. A floral brooch can recycle silk or plastic flowers adapted to fit an inexpensive pin backing. With the use of a hot glue gun, you can attach a mixture of petals, leaves, ribbons and other decorative pieces for a specific look or theme.
Things You'll Need
- Decorative materials
- Scissors or craft knife
- Glue gun
- Newspaper or paper towels
- Pin backing
Instructions
-
-
1
Trim off the excess plastic stems from the flower's back so the flower can lay flat against the pin backing.
-
2
Remove or add petals, leaves or ribbons to create the desired look. Buttons, small beads or other decorations can cover the flower's center.
-
-
3
Use the glue gun to apply the petals and other flower parts. Set the glue gun over a newspaper or paper towel to catch any drips. Let the glue dry completely. Check that the whole flower stays together.
-
4
Apply hot glue to attach the assembled flower to the pin backing. Let the flower dry face down with the glued pin backing on top.
-
5
Open the pin. Glue a small leaf or small piece of fabric to cover the pin back and part of the flower's back. This piece of reinforcement can help secure the flower to the pin backing. The pin part that attaches to your clothing will remain free.

Tips & Warnings
A pair of tweezers can help you pick up and place very small objects, such as beads and sequins.
When gluing the pin backing, the backing should not slide off and the flower or other materials should not roll away.
Other crafty brooches can include small photos with colorful frames, tiny animal figures and their habitats, geometric shapes as a backdrop for text, and found objects assembled in unusual ways.
The hot glue gun and its heated glue can injure. Keep the glue gun away from small children and pets.
Small materials such as beads can be a choking hazard.
