How to Learn Handwriting Analysis Online
Handwriting analysis, or graphology, is an appealing skill to learn, offering insights into personality traits that may otherwise remain hidden. However, graphology is not yet established as a respected science, although it is sometimes used by the legal profession as well as by businesses, who often use it at the recruitment stage. Its professional standing as a science is something to consider if you want to train to use it for career purposes. If you are learning to be a professional handwriting analyst through correspondence, or online, courses will take between 18 months and three years and are likely to cost at least $1,500. It is often cheaper to receive courses in downloaded PDF format, rather than hard copy.

Get a free online analysis of your own handwriting as a first step to understanding more about it. It's an exciting initiation into the subject and you will see what sort of things are deduced from a short handwriting sample. You can pay for an analysis but, for your purposes, a free reading will do. Don't necessarily expect it to be too accurate, however. The Business Balls website offers a downloadable self-test (see References), while the Handwriting Wizard and Handwriting Analysis websites ask you questions about your handwriting sample to produce a report for you.

Try a free online course next, before shelling out for a full correspondence course. This will give you a taste for the subject itself and offer some insight into what studying online, or through a correspondence course, will be like. If you are used to being taught in person, this style of learning might not suit you. You don't want to waste your money. The Handwriting Insights website offers a free handwriting analysis course and the Handwriting University offers free articles and lessons as introductory material to the subject (see Resources).

Research several online suppliers before committing to buy an expensive correspondence course. Currently there is no official accreditation standard in the United States, so it is important that you do your course with a respected organization. The Handwriting-L website is set up by a group of respected handwriting analysis organizations to promote understanding of the subject and provide a central information resource. Some course providers recommended by them are the International School of Handwriting Analysis (ISHA), the International Graphoanalysis Society (IGAS) and the International School of Handwriting Science. Before finally deciding which course to take, read testimonials and search online forums to confirm that your choice is a sound one.

Tips & Warnings
Due to the current lack of accreditation it can be difficult to judge which courses are likely to be of good quality. Stick to organizations with good reputations. Don't try to save money by going with an organization that has little history and few recommendations.
