How to Make Skier Lift Tickets

Requiring ski lift tickets is part of operating a profitable ski resort.

A ski lift ticket system is a crucial part of operating a ski resort. A ski lift ticket is the proof-of-payment that allows skiers to ride the ski lift to the top of the mountain. To keep control of the customers and run an organized and profitable business, your ski lift ticket system must be designed carefully from the start. If you're running a small resort, you can can craft the ski lift tickets yourself.

Things You'll Need

• Microsoft Office
• Colored paper
• Laminating sheets
• Paper clips
• Scissors
• Hot glue gun

Instructions

1. Open a Microsoft Word document and navigate to "File" in the top toolbar and select "New."

2. Select "Templates on Office Online" under the heading "Templates" in the panel that opens on the right side of the screen.

3. Type "Tickets" into the search field at the top of the browser window that opens. Select and download the template you like best.

4. Delete the default information in the ticket and type in the information for your ski lodge or resort. Be sure to include the day for which the lift tickets are valid in bold, large print on the tickets, or the words "Season Pass" if the tickets are for all season.

5. Insert colored paper into your printer. Designate a different colored paper for each day of the week, and an entirely separate color for all season passes. This helps you monitor the tickets of customers to ensure they aren't reusing old ski passes without purchasing current ones.

6. Cut out all the tickets and press each ticket between laminating sheets. Laminating the tickets ensures they will not wear out, fall off or get wet from snow. To laminate, peel off the protective backing of the sticky sides of the laminating sheet. Place the ticket onto the sheet and press down with the non-sticky sides to seal in between the sheets. Trim down the laminating sheets as necessary.

7. Glue a clip to the back of each laminated ticket so that the customer can attach the lift ticket to his or her zipper. A cost-effective way to do this is to use a sturdy paper clip. The clip can be looped onto the zipper pulley to attach it to the customer's coat.

Tips & Warnings

• To professionally print the ski lift tickets you created, save the document as a JPEG file. Burn the JPEG file onto a CD and bring the CD to a professional printer for printing and laminating. Depending on your version of Microsoft Word, you may need to create the tickets within a Microsoft PowerPoint document to be able to save the file as a JPEG. Simply follow the same steps above, but working in PowerPoint, and save the completed document as a JPEG file.
