How to Bond Fusible Fleece to Wood thumbnail
You can bond fusible fleece to wood with an iron.

Fusible fleece is a fabric fleece product. It can be attached, or fused, to other products, such as clothing, sofas, bed stands and walls, with the assistance of an iron. It can be used to enhance the appearance of other items. It can also be used to increase the warmth or durability of outdoor clothing like jackets, vests and scarves. Bonding your fusible fleece to wood gives you a softer place to sit or livens up the appearance of your wood.

Instructions

    • 1

Take out your ThermoWeb, Pellon or Cotswold fusible fleece (see Resources 1, 2 and 3) from its package.

    • 2

Use your piece of wood to determine how much fusible fleece you want covering it. Cut your fleece down to the desired size for your wood with your scissors.

    • 3

Place the rough side of the fleece down onto the wood. Smooth out the top soft side of your fleece with your hands so there are no creases.

    • 4

Plug in your iron to a functioning power outlet. Set your iron to its "Wool" or "Steam" setting. Place the iron for 10 to 15 seconds onto each top section of your fusible fleece, according to HTCRetail (see References 1.) Do this until you have covered the entire top portion of your fusible fleece with your iron to fuse it to your wood.

    • 5

Test your fleece's fusion to your wood by lifting or moving it around to see if any part of the fleece comes off. Test your fleece's fusion to your wood by gently pulling on it to see if any part of it peels off of the wood. Apply your iron with its "Wool" or "Steam" setting selected for 10 to 15 seconds to any movable parts of the fleece until they completely stick to the wood (see References 1.)

Tips & Warnings

  • Add another layer of fleece and meld it to your first layer with your iron on its "Wool" or "Steam" setting for additional cushioning.

  • If you want to use fabric with the fleece, make sure the fleece is completely melded to the wood before adding a layer of fabric on top of it.
