Painting aluminum will change the appearance of the metal.

Aluminum has many uses. Many objects are made from the durable and lightweight metal, such as roofs, bicycles, home exterior siding and more. One way to change the look of aluminum is to paint it. There is one way to paint the aluminum that will ensure the paint will last for years. This method uses a secure paint base that will help the paint stick to the metal longer than some other forms of paint.

Step 1

Wash the aluminum with about 1/3 cup of powdered soap per gallon of water. Wash the metal with a scrub brush and then a sponge until the water runs clear. Rinse with water until the water remains clear and bubble-free. Allow the metal to dry for about 24 to 48 hours or until completely dry.

Apply two additional coats of paint, allowing each coat to dry for 2 hours before applying the next coat. Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours before using the metal object or touching it with other objects.
