Instructions

    • 1

Gather all the research materials that you may need such as textbooks and computer.

    • 2

Research the topic. Get information on the specific topic you are writing about. Seek references to cite where the information came from.

    • 3

Brainstorm. Think about what you are writing about and how you would like to prepare your report.

    • 4

Take notes. This is helpful to do after your have brainstormed and thought about all the information you want to use. Write your ideas on paper or highlight printed material. It makes things easier to remember, and you can go back to the notes and the highlighted sections when you are writing the report.

    • 5

Create an outline. Your outline is important. It should consist of the title, subtitles (if any), paragraph formats, any charts or lists, and the bibliography.

    • 6

Create a rough draft. This will be the practice report.

    • 7

Proofread your rough draft. Is all of your information correct? Does your report have mechanical errors or incorrect grammar? Do you make all the points and arguments clear? Check for these mistakes, and correct them by making notes on the same piece of paper with a red pen to ensure that you will go back and correct them for the final draft.

    • 8

Rewrite or type your report on a clean sheet of paper or on the computer to be printed out. Take heed of all notes you made on the rough draft, correcting them as you go.

    • 9

Add pictures, graphs or charts (if any) to your report before finalizing. If you are printing your report, make sure these are in color to enhance your paper.

    • 10

Prepare your bibliography. Write down all of your resources and where you retrieved the information. You will need this list of cites to turn in with the report.

    • 11

Print the report. Make sure all the corrections were made. If hand writing the report, ensure that it is legible.
