Instructions

    • 1

Decide whether you are going throw a traditional afternoon tea or start the tea at 6:00 p.m. like the Mad Hatter and the Hare did in the story.

    • 2

Send your tea party invitations. Use design elements inspired by the Alice in Wonderland story. Decorate your invitations like the Mad Hatter's top hat or the Queen of Hearts playing card.

    • 3

Decorate your house and lawn for the tea party. Adorn your tables with colorful tablecloths of blues, yellows, and pinks. Offer colorful, mismatched teapots, teacups, and saucers, stacked on a front table. Find several Mad Hatter top hats and put them on each table as the centerpiece. Place other Alice in Wonderland decorations throughout the house, such as placing a large stuffed Alice doll in a miniature dollhouse, scattering gold keys around, and having chess boards and playing cards available. Place pink flamingos on the front lawn. Decorate with red and white roses.

    • 4

Create a "Giant" area. Set up a giant chess set on the lawn for guests to challenge each other, and decorate the area with giant playing cards, especially the Queen of Hearts.

    • 5

Plan your tea party menu. Attach the words, "Eat me!" or "Drink Me!" to all types of goodies and guests must follow the rules to become taller or shorter, just like in Wonderland. Serve some light snacks like ham finger sandwiches, edible mushrooms, and cookies and cupcakes decorated in the shape of hearts or a clock. Offer your guests a light cream tea, like the Mad Hatter traditionally served, in addition to other black teas.

    • 6

Bake and decorate an Alice in Wonderland themed cake. Decorate a Disney themed Alice in Wonderland cake, featuring all the characters, or bake a carrot cake in honor of the Hare, who attended every tea party.

    • 7

Plan games for the party. Host a Hearts tournament if you have the right number of guests. Buy an old croquet set for lawn croquet and use stuffed hedgehog toys as the balls. Or play "Pin the Grin on the Cheshire Cat."

Tips & Warnings

  • To get more into the spirit, have all the guests arrive dressed up as different characters from Alice in Wonderland. Or have them all wear hats like the Mad Hatter.
