How to Make LED Glowsticks

There is no more essential accessory for the darkness of a rave or any electronic show than a little light on demand. Regular glowsticks are fun but useless after one night of partying. You can either buy a new glowstick for every single event you go to or you can consider a more lasting alternative. With just a flashlight and some tape you can give your used glowstick a second life. Just follow these steps to have your own LED glowstick that you can turn on and off and use again and again.

Instructions

    • 1

Take an expired glowstick and cut off the top (the side without a hook). Drain it into a sink or a bowl and wash it out. Do this carefully. It can get messy.

    • 2

Cut a notch on each side of the hole down the side of the glowstick large enough to fit the LED flashlight.

    • 3

Open the packaging for the LED flashlight. You can find this at the store or online. Just make sure it's fairly compact.

    • 4

Put the flashlight in the notches of the glowstick, with the bulb of the flashlight pointing inside the glowstick, and wrap the electric tape around the flashlight until both of them are firmly connected. Cut the end of the tape. Leave the switch of the LED flashlight exposed enough to turn on and off.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you tape the glowstick together, make sure it's tight enough to withstand all sorts of jostling. Remember that you may want to use this at raves.

  • When emptying your old glowstick, be careful not to touch the liquid that comes out. It can be dangerous if consumed.
