How to Make an "I Love Lucy" Costume
"I Love Lucy" is a 1950s American sitcom starring Lucille Ball as Lucy Ricardo. Lucy is a lovable redhead housewife with a knack for causing many a calamity around the house. She dresses in cute and kitschy 1950s attire, favoring pretty print dresses. Her most well-known look is a polka-dot-print frock teamed with an apron and her unmistakable, lustrous red hair. Things You'll Need
- White apron -- the style that only covers your lower half
- 1-inch-by-4-foot red ribbon
- Scissors
- Needle
- Thread
- 3-inch-by-3-inch red material
- Black 1950s-style dress with white polka dots
- White high-heeled shoes
- Red curly wig
- Red lipstick
- Black eyeliner
- Gray eyeshadow
- Black mascara

Cut enough red ribbon to stretch across the top of the apron and sew to the apron in a horizontal line 2 inches from the top using the needle and thread. Repeat at the bottom of the apron, this time sewing the ribbon 2 inches from the bottom.

Draw a heart on the 3-inch-by-3-inch piece of red material -- the heart should fill the material as much as possible so it is almost 3 inches wide at the top. Cut this heart out and sew it to the top right corner of the apron -- about 3 inches below the ribbon and 3 inches from the right edge.

Wear the polka-dot dress and white shoes, then tie the apron over the top.

Put on the curly red wig and paint your lips with red lipstick. Line your eyes with black eyeliner, winging the line up at the outer corners. Dust a little gray eyeshadow outside the liner along the top lashes. Apply black mascara.

If you can't find a polka-dot dress, any 1950s-style frock will be suitable.
If you have naturally red hair, curl it instead of wearing a wig.
