Homemade Twister Halloween Costumes

Get creative and make your own Halloween costume this year. Use a Twister game to make a strapless dress that will be both unique and inexpensive. If you have a Twister game at your home that you no longer play, use that. Otherwise, look for a game at yard sales, thrift stores or local department stores. The plastic game mat included in the Twister games gives you the perfect materials to make the costume.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the plastic Twister game mat and hold it up next to your body. Wrap the dress around you and determine how much of the plastic you need to create a simple dress. Wrap the mat snugly against your body, but use enough fabric so that you can move easily. In addition to determining the width, decide on the length you want.

    • 2

Cut the plastic mat according to your measurements, but allow about 2 inches of extra fabric in the width. Cut so that the Twister logo appears on the front of the dress. If you are cutting the mat to make a short dress, cut from the top so that you don't eliminate the logo.

    • 3

Lay the dress on a flat surface. Line up Velco strips at the vertical seams of the dress. Select Velco strips with adhesive backs. Arrange them so that the fuzzy side is on the outer edge of the front side of the mat, and the rough portion is on the outer edge of the backside of the mat. Place the Velcro strips down the edges at 2- to 3- inch intervals.

    • 4

Cut 1-inch wide strips from the excess plastic that are long enough to extend over your shoulders from the front of the dress to the back. Place the fuzzy side of a Velcro strip at both bottom edges of the straps. Apply the rough side of a Velcro strip to the inside of the dress at the points where the straps meet.

Poke two holes in the game's spinner board. Thread a red ribbon through each of the holes and tie the ribbon underneath your chin so that the board serves as your hat.
