How to Add an Additional Insured to Auto Insurance in Massachusetts
If you are recently married, or have a child who recently obtained her driver's license in Massachusetts, you may need to an an additional person to your auto insurance policy. The process of adding an insured individual is straightforward, and you can often do it online or over the telephone. In some cases, you may need to go to your insurance agent to have the insured person added to your policy.

Collect all of the necessary information for the driver to be added to your auto insurance policy in Massachusetts. You need the person's date of birth, Social Security number, driver's license number and all relevant information on his vehicle, if applicable. This includes the make and model of the car, the year it was manufactured, the vehicle identification number, mileage and information on its safety and security features.

Contact your insurance company to discuss adding an insured person to your auto insurance policy. If you aren't sure of the phone number, you can find it on your auto insurance materials or on a recent statement. If you have an online account with your insurer, you may also be able to add an additional driver and vehicle through the company's secure website.

Make sure the newly insured person has enough coverage. Massachusetts sets insurance coverage minimums, but you may wish to purchase more for added protection--particularly if you are insuring a teenage driver.
