Rice cookers automatically cook your rice.

The Aroma 7-Cup Rice Cooker and Steamer is a countertop appliance that cooks rice and steams food at the press of a switch. It comes with six parts: the body of the machine, glass lid, inner pot, steam rack, measuring cup and rice paddle. The power switch is located on the face of the machine's body, as are indicator lights, to tell when the rice is cooking or warming. The inner pot slips in and out of the appliance for easy cleaning. The measuring cup is not an 8-ounce cup, but a rice cup that measures out enough rice to make two cups of cooked rice. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Cook Rice

    • 1

Lift the lid off the appliance and remove the inner pot.

    • 2

Measure out the amount of rice to cook using the measuring cup. Pour the rice into the inner pot. The maximum amount of rice to cook in the cooker is 7 cups. Rice expands, so don't overfill the cooker.

    • 3

Rinse the rice under cool running water to remove excess starch. Leave the rice in the pot while rinsing, moving the rice around with your hand as you run the water in the pot. Drain off the water slowly, pouring out just the water and not the rice

    • 4

Add water to the inner pot, filling to the measurement line on the inner side, which corresponds to how many cups (the cup that comes with the appliance) of rice added. This measurement is for white rice only. If using brown rice, refer to the recommended amount of water to add on the package of rice, as brown rice requires more water for cooking.

    • 5

Set the inner pot into the body of the machine and set the glass lid on top. Let the rice set in the water for 10 to 20 minutes if you want the rice to be softer.

    • 6

Plug in the appliance and press the "On" switch, on the face of the machine. The "Cook" light will illuminate. When the "Warm" light turns on, the "Cook" light turns off, indicating the rice is finished cooking. Allow the rice to stand for about 10 minutes after it finishes cooking before removing the lid.

    Steam Food

    • 7

Lift the lid off the appliance and add water to the inner pot. Refer to the steaming chart that comes with the appliance, for how much water to add, which varies from 1/4 cup of water to 1 1/4 cup of water, depending on what you are steaming.

    • 8

Set the steam rack in the inner pot.

    • 9

Place food on the rack to steam.

    • 10

Plug in the appliance and press the "On" switch, on the face of the machine. The "Cook" light will illuminate. When the "Warm" light turns on, and the "Cook" light turns off, the steaming is complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wipe down the outside walls of the inner pot to remove any moister, before placing it in the appliance.

  • Set the rice cooker up on a sturdy counter, close to an electrical outlet.

  • Never use a metal utensil on the inner pot, as it will scratch its surface. Instead, use the plastic rice paddle that comes with the rice cooker.

  • Don't place the cooking steamer under a cabinet, as the moisture can damage the cabinet's finish.
