How to Make a Sackboy Costume

Sackboy is a character from the video game LittleBigPlanet, a popular PlayStation 3 game that features a number of fun, fascinating puzzles. The character has become so beloved that many fans now want to dress as him for costume parties and conventions. In order to make a Sackboy costume, you'll need a number of different materials, a good amount of spare time over one afternoon and, of course, a love for Sackboy himself.

Things You'll Need

• Plastic garbage bin
• Knife
• Bubble wrap
• 2 gray sweatshirts
• Gray sweatpants
• Masking tape
• Scissors
• Needle
• Thread
• Hot glue gun
• Pieces of leather

Instructions

1. Purchase a plastic garbage bin that is around 10 gallons in size or that will effectively fit over your head but not your shoulders. It should be round, not square or rectangular. Turn the garbage bin upside down. With a sharp knife, cut a smiling mouth in the front of your garbage bin, making it the Sackboy costume's face. Look at pictures of Sackboy to know exactly how this mouth should look. It should be about 2 to 3 inches above the large opening of the garbage bin.

2. Wrap bubble wrap around the garbage bin, affixing it with tape. The stronger the tape, the better, as you don't want this bubble wrap coming loose while you wear the costume. Purchase or use an extra large gray sweatshirt and fit it over the garbage bin and the bubble wrap. Use scissors to cut the sleeves off the sweatshirt and sew the holes up with a needle and thread. Cut a slit through the sweatshirt where Sackboy's mouth is and fold it back into the plastic garbage bin. Pull the fabric tight and affix it with tape inside the bin so that it does not come undone.

3. Cut two pieces of leather from a larger sheet of leather into as perfect circles as possible. You may want to use a marker to trace around an upside-down pint glass on top of the leather and then cut along that line. These will make two perfectly round eyes. Glue these at the same level above the mouth with a hot glue gun, near the top of the Sackboy head, or the bottom of the bin.

4. Dress in matching gray sweatpants and a zip-front sweatshirt, so that your outfit is the same color as the head. Put the hat on and have fun.

Tips & Warnings

• Instead of sewing the sweatshirt arm holes closed, you can use a hot glue gun.

• Add stuffing, styrofoam or fabric inside the plastic bin to make it fit more snugly.

• Be careful when cutting the plastic bin with a sharp knife to form the mouth of the costume. This is difficult to do and could lead to injury.
