How to Clean Warm Mist Humidifier Calcification

Calcification in your warm-mist humidifier is the result of mineral deposit buildup from your hard water. These deposits reduce your humidifier's mist output and cause it to work less efficiently. Mineral deposit buildup is obvious and occurs on the heating element and the tank walls. Most manufacturers recommend at least a weekly cleaning to prevent or remove this hard water calcification. Instructions

    • 1

Turn off and unplug your warm mist humidifier before performing any cleaning procedures on it.

    • 2

Wipe mineral deposits off of the heating element with a soft, clean cloth each day after you unplug the humidifier and it cools down.

    • 3

Remove the water tank from the humidifier daily. Empty it and wash out any grainy mineral deposits in the tank. Wash it by hand with warm water and a few drops of a mild liquid dishwashing detergent. If your water tank is dishwasher safe, place it on the top rack and run it through a dishwashing cycle instead of handwashing it.

Remove calcification from the tank on a weekly basis by filling it with undiluted white vinegar. Allow the vinegar to sit for about 20 minutes. Wipe out the interior surfaces with a soft cloth dampened with vinegar. Then rinse the tank with warm water.
