How to Disable PT Cruiser Factory Antitheft System

by Emily Retherford

Chrysler's retro-styled compact car, the PT Cruiser, comes equipped with a factory alarm system to keep people from tampering with it. Like other antitheft devices, you arm and disarm the PT Cruiser's alarm by using a remote key fob. If you lose your key fob, or regularly use valet service, it's possible to disable the alarm manually.

Step 1

Press the "Unlock" key on your key fob to deactivate the alarm and unlock the car doors. If you've lost your key fob, unlocking the driver's side door with the key automatically deactivates the PT Cruiser's alarm.

Step 2

Look for the black alarm box underneath the dashboard, on the driver's side of the car. Locate the override button on the box -- either a black or red button, depending on the year of the PT Cruiser -- but don't press it yet.

Step 3

Put the key in the ignition and turn the key so that the battery is on, but the engine doesn't start. Quickly push and hold in the override button until you hear the alarm sound once, indicating the alarm is disabled.
