How to Clean a Thermal Coffee Pot

Thermal coffee pots keep coffee hot for hours without the need for a hot plate, which can leave the coffee tasting burnt and stale. Thermal coffee pots have an insulating layer, such as glass, stainless steel or plastic, which keeps the heat from escaping the carafe. With each use, coffee oils can build up inside a thermal coffee pot, adding a bitter taste to coffee. Clean your thermal coffee pot daily for the freshest tasting coffee.

Things You'll Need

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Sponge or bottle brush
  • Towel
  • Empty any coffee from the thermal coffee pot and rinse it out with warm water. Set the coffee pot into the sink.

  • Sprinkle 1 tbsp. of baking soda into the thermal coffee pot, and pour in 1 cup of white vinegar.

  • Scrub the thermal coffee pot thoroughly with a sponge, or use a bottle brush if the pot has a small opening.

  • Rinse the thermal coffee pot thoroughly with warm water.

  • Pour out any excess water, and dry the thermal coffee pot with a towel.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not clean a thermal carafe with soap, as it may leave residue
