How to Upgrade TDM PBX
TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) is a type of Private Branch Exchange (PBX) used by organizations to switch telephones over physical lines. A PBX lets an organization manage its own internal phone network, routing calls across the enterprise and managing call transfers and simultaneous ringing of different phones in a call center. TDM PBXs are physical devices released by the Adtran corporation and do not follow the industry-standard SIP routing protocol. They can be managed by a serial connection to a console port where it can be upraded with a single command.

1
Connect your serial cable from the serial port of a laptop or nearby desktop to the back of your Adtran PBX. Ensure the cable is firmly connected.

2
Open your Adtran Console by pressing "Start" and typing "Command Prompt." Type "cd C:\adtran" (without quotes). Replace "C:\adtran" with the location you installed Adtran's software to if you did not accept the default settings.

-
3
Type "adtranc" and press "Enter." A connection will automatically be made over the serial link. Provide a user name and password for your PBX, pressing "Enter" after each.
-
4
Type "update --now" and press "Enter." Your PBX will dial into Adtran's update server using its administrative line. The upgrade will be downloaded and applied.
-
5
Enter a reset time and press "Enter." If you leave this blank, a default of 3 a.m. will be assumed. All active calls will be interrupted so this should not be during business hours.
