Paint the wall whatever color you would like to use as the base color for the fish images. For an ocean or water-like look, you can choose a blue color or a combination of blue and green. If you feel especially artistic, you can use tan paint to add a beach or island and complete the effect.

Get fish stencils form an art supply store. While some people may be able to paint fish onto walls by hand, the majority of people painting a room on their own will likely need a little help.

Hold the stencil up to the wall and paint in each section using whatever color of paint you want the fish to be. If you would like to paint each fish in more than one color, cover the parts of the stencil that you don't want to paint with tape and paint only the sections that you want with the first color. Then, remove the tape, line the stencil up with the parts of the fish already on the wall and paint the other parts of the stencil in with additional colors.
