How to Remove Ink Jet Stains
Although ink jet cartridges rarely make a mess, it is possible to get ink stains on your carpet when you are swapping out a nearly empty one for a full one. The stains may look bad, but you can remove the stains from your carpet without any permanent damage. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Vacuum cleaner
- Carpet cleaner with foaming action
- Paper towels
- Towel
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Hydrogen peroxide
Instructions

If Ink is Powdery

Vacuum up the ink with the nozzle just above the spill. Do not make direct contact with the ink as it can stain the carpet even more.

Put foaming carpet cleaner on the spot.

Blot up the cleaner with paper towels and repeat the treatment until the stain is gone.

Rinse the carpet with water when the stain is gone to remove any residual carpet cleaner. Dry with a clean towel.
If Ink is Liquid

Blot up as much of the spill as possible with a dry and clean towel.

Put a small amount of isopropyl alcohol on a clean towel and apply to the remaining spill. Repeat this step until you can no longer blot up any more ink.

Apply hydrogen peroxide to a towel and blot up any remaining ink.

Let the spot dry overnight.

Tips & Warnings
To prevent spills, put ink jet cartridges inside a paper bag before taking off the safety slip.
Do not rub the ink with a paper towel as this will just worsen the stain and make it more difficult to get up.
