Homemade Fred Flintstone Costume

Homemade Fred Flintstone Costume thumbnail
Faux fur comes in many patterns and colors.

Fred Flintstone, main protagonist of the long running animated sitcom "The Flintstones", is a fun and popular character. He and his family, wife Wilma and daughter Pebbles, as well his neighbors the Rubbles, were a part of the average American's fondest childhood memories. Many of us remember spending Saturday morning watching his misadventure in the town of Bedrock with his best friend Barney. So it stands to reason that he makes for an easy and recognizable costume idea.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure around the largest part of your body. Half this, plus 3 inches and cut material to this width.

    • 2

Measure from your mid-calf to the top of your shoulder. Double this. Cut material to this length.

    • 3

Measure around your head at ear level. Cut a hole in the center of the material about this size. It does not have to be perfectly round, just big enough to fit your head through.

    • 4

Pull the material over your head like a poncho with print on the inside.

    • 5

Pin the material together at yours sides, leaving ample room for arm holes. It should fit rather loosely.

    • 6

Pull material off over your head and sew up the side where the pins are. Turn it back to print side out.

    • 7

Cut the hemline into jagged points.

    • 8

Put it back on and tie the large blue tie around your neck just like a regular suit tie.
