How to Increase an iMac's Wireless Range
All Apple iMac desktop computers come with a built-in wireless networking card, referred to as an Airport card. You can use an Apple Airport wireless router to set up a local network in your home or office and share a single Internet connection among multiple computers. If your iMac computer is registering a low Airport signal or no signal at all, there are several steps you can take to improve the signal and increase the wireless card's range.

Clear away any large objects surrounding your Airport wireless router to limit interference with the wireless signal and increase the wireless range.

Move your Airport router to different locations in your home or office to improve the wireless signal, if Step 1 doesn't solve the problem.

Disable or turn off other wireless devices that could be causing interference, such as cordless phones, Bluetooth devices or other routers.
Advanced Airport Configuration

Navigate to the "Utilities" folder on your iMac and double-click on the "Airport Utility" icon. A window will open, and your iMac will begin scanning for nearby wireless routers.

Double-click on your Airport wireless router from the list located on the left side of the window.

Go to the "Airport" tab at the top of the window.

Open the drop-down menu next to "Channel" and choose a different number from the one currently set, which can reduce interference with other devices and improve your iMac's wireless range.

Go to the "Wireless Options" at the top of the window.

Choose "100%" from the "Transmit Power" drop-down menu. This setting will ensure that your iMac and Airport router are using the full extent of their wireless range.

Press the "Update" button to save the changes to your wireless configuration.
