How to Troubleshoot a Fujitsu Fi-5650C When it Overheats
After the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 in Yokohama and Tokyo, Japan, Fujitsu began in telecommunications starting with automatic switching systems, then entered the computer business in 1954, becoming the top computer manufacturer in Japan by 1968. Fujitsu continued to create hardware, including scanners, such as the Fujitsu Fi-5650/c scanner. Your Fujitsu Fi-5650/c scanner comes with a 90-day, onsite, limited warranty. Troubleshooting your scanner when it overheats will help keep your scanner lasting longer and save you money in service calls.

1
Turn off your scanner immediately and unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet if you detect smoke, heat or unusual odors coming from your scanner. Locate the on/off power switch behind your scanner directly above the power cable inlet for the power cord. Contact an authorized Fujitsu scanner technician to service your scanner after you ensure your scanner has stopped smoking (see Resources).
-
2
Unblock the ventilation ports on your scanner if you notice your scanner overheating. Blocked ventilation ports cause your scanner to overheat by generating heat inside. This heat buildup can cause your scanner to malfunction and cause a fire. Locate ventilation ports on the front and back of your scanner and move obstacles to another area or move your scanner away from a wall or other surface blocking the ports.

Move your Fujitsu scanner away from heating appliances and out of direct sunlight if your scanner overheats. The sunlight and other heat causes your scanner to build up an excess of heat inside, which can cause a fire or problems with your scanner. Relocate your scanner to a well-ventilated area.

Tips & Warnings
Wipe your Fujitsu scanner clean using a clean cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol, also known as rubbing alcohol. Clean the ultrasonic sensor with a dry, lint-free cloth only. Locate the ultrasonic sensor above the sheet guide and just below the brake roller when you open up the scanner. The ultrasonic sensor detects the double-feeding of pages through your scanner.
Call 800-626-4686, option 2 to contact a technical support engineer for your scanner. Call Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. through 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
Turn your scanner to the "Off" position and unplug the power cord from the outlet for three minutes or until your scanner becomes cold before cleaning the inside. The glass inside of the scanner becomes very hot and can cause serious burns.
