How to Make a Sock Monkey Hat for a Baby
The sock monkey is one of the most endearing stuffed animals for children. The characteristic red grin outlined by a white mouth is actually a pattern from the famous Original Rockford Red Heel Sock. The sock was created by the Nelson family who hailed from Sweden in the19th century. It was later used to make stuffed animals in the 1950s. There are endless possibilities for making toys and clothing with the red heel sock including items for your baby such as a hat.

The official sock monkey website contains instructions for making a sock monkey when you purchase the socks. There are also additional items to purchase such as a book for different sock monkey creations, and articles of clothing including a sock monkey baby hat. Making a sock monkey hat for your baby is relatively easy and fun to make if you don't want to buy a ready-made hat.

2
Purchase a couple of pairs of red heel socks. Since a baby's head is relatively small you can fashion a hat out of the socks. Cut out the red heel from the socks with scissors. Sew the red heel on to the grey sock material with a sewing machine or needle and thread. This is the mouth, and is the most important feature.

Using a sewing machine, sew trim along the edge of the material so it won't unravel. Sew the sides together and top of the hat to the body leaving only enough room to make a tight fit for a sock hat.

Use black buttons to make eyes and add a red yarn tussle to the top of the hat. Sew these on with a needle and thread. Now you have a homemade sock monkey baby hat from scratch.
