Low-carbohydrate protein bars are all the rage among the bodybuilding community and the health-conscious, but they are a good and healthy substitute for a quick snack between meals for everyday folk as well. If buying them seems expensive to you, or you just feel more comfortable making your own food, these types of bars can be made easily from scratch.

Things You'll Need

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla flavor
  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup wheat germ
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 cups whole oats
  • 1 cup hazelnuts
  • 9- by-13-inch baking pan
  • Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Knife

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mix the eggs, canola oil, sugar and vanilla flavoring in the bowl.

Add the flour, wheat germ, baking soda, salt, and oats. Mix well, until the mass is without lumps. Add the hazelnuts and mix again.

Spray the cooking pan with nonstick cooking spray.

Spread the mixture in the cooking pan and put it in the oven.

Leave the mixture in the oven for 25 minutes or until the edge of the mass starts to pull away from the sides of the pan.

Take the mass out of the oven and leave it to cool. Once the mass is cold, cut the sheet into bars.
