How to Add Echoes to Sounds

How to Add Echoes to Sounds thumbnail
Adding echo to a sound can be done with audio software tools.

When you are recording something it doesn't always sound like you want it to. Even if you record a sound that has an echo, the echo may not be picked up very well by the microphone. Adding effects to a piece of audio in editing software can sometimes take time and work, but in most cases adding an echo to a sound is very simple. The hard part to adding in echoes is just choosing the right kind and amount of echoes.

Instructions

    • 1

Record the sound using a microphone. You can connect the microphone to record on your computer, using a sound program, or you can record it on a portable digital recording device and import that to your computer.

    • 2

Open an audio-editing program on your computer. Import the recorded sound by going to the "File" menu and choosing "Open" or "Import" and then selecting the file from the location you saved it or the device that is connected to the computer.

    • 3

Select the portion of the file where the sound is located that you want to echo. Go to the "Effects" menu and select "Reverb" or "Echo." Choose from the settings to adjust the amount and sound of the echo. You may have to try several different combinations of settings to get the sound you want. Some audio programs have presets that you can choose from.
