How to Remove the Power Steering Belt on a 1999 Dodge Caravan

The power steering belt on your 1999 Dodge Caravan works in conjunction with your power-steering pump and fluid reservoir to make taking turns easier. There might come a time when you have to change your power-steering belt or remove it to work on another part. The steering belt on your Caravan is a serpentine belt, which also controls the water pump, alternator, and air-conditioning pump. Removal takes about 20 minutes.

Instructions

1. Open your hood, and remove the negative battery cable.

2. Find the belt tensioner. It is on the passenger's side of the engine block toward the rear in your Caravan.

3. Loosen the tensioner bolt with your socket set, and allow the assembly to slip forward.

4. Feed the belt off the power-steering pulley first.

5. Track the belt with your fingers, and remove it from the pulleys of the other parts it powers.
