How to Remove a Pioneer From a Dash

Pioneer manufactures a variety of car stereo head units to fit a wide range of car audio needs. To replace, repair or add an external device to your Pioneer stereo, you must first extract the deck from the vehicle's stereo mounting dock. Use the Pioneer stereo extraction tools that were provided with the head unit. If you do not have the original set of devices, purchase replacements to remove the Pioneer stereo unit from your vehicle's dash.

Disconnect the two stereo wiring connectors from the outlets on the back side of the Pioneer head unit. Unplug the antenna cable lead from the FM antenna input on the lower-right corner of the Pioneer's rear panel.

Tips & Warnings

  • Purchase the Pioneer head unit removal tools from Pioneer directly or an aftermarket car stereo retailer.

  • Leave the grounding cable away from the battery until the new stereo is connected or the Pioneer unit is replaced. Disconnecting or connecting a head unit while the grounding cable is connected can lead to shock and a shorting of the vehicle's electrical system.
